CONTEXT
Altus Power is a clean energy company that provides scalar solar energy for houses, businesses, and communities. I worked with the senior product manager, leading this transition, and our primary stakeholder, the Senior Accountant.
PROBLEM
Accurate billing is hard when there are
three ways to send out bills.
B2B and B2C billing lives across multiple platforms (both through third-party services and in-house). The Accounting Team needed one single place to view customer information, such as invoices, contacts, and crucial documents.
Profiles that centralized all B2C data already exist, but what about B2B customers?

RESEARCH
What type of customer info is needed to bill accurately & reliably?
I interviewed the Senior Accountant and Senior PM to gather insights on which form fields and sections were required for the profiles. Here are my insights:
๐
B2B CUSTOMER INFO. IS MORE COMPLEX THAN B2C
B2B customers include businesses, communities, etc. Therefore, 100% of B2B customers have more than one property registered in our system.
๐
DOCUMENT ORGANIZATION IS CRUCIAL
Documents (utility bills, etc) are crucial in determining how much each customer is billed monthly. Accountants need to be able to upload & view documents seamlessly.
DESIGN GOALS

SOLUTION
All B2B customer information ready in one place
The main user flow of the Commercial Customer profiles, including navigating multiple properties, contact information, required form fields, and more.

REFLECTION
Much of the design was rooted in design thinking, especially curating and presenting customer data into both existing and new sections. For this project, I was able to focus on information architecture and establishing clear priorities within the profile.
ASK, DON'T ASSUME
It was important to become a mini-expert in this field to advocate for myself and stakeholders.
GOOD DESIGN IS WHEN YOU CAN'T TAKE ANYTHING AWAY
I became more intentional with my designs, ensuring that everything earned its place on the page.
