UX/UI DESIGNER
CONTEXT

Altus Power is a clean energy company that provides scalar solar energy for houses, businesses, and communities.
I worked with the senior product manager leading this transition and our primary stakeholder, the Senior Accountant.
PROBLEM
Community solar depends on accurate billing, but that can get pretty hard when there are three ways we can send out bills.
B2B and B2C billing lived across multiple platforms (both third-party and in-house). The Accounting team needed one place to see customer information, such as invoices, contact information, and crucial documents.
Profiles that centralized B2C data already existed… but where did the B2B information sit?

RESEARCH
What sort of customer information was crucial to bill accurately and reliably?
I interviewed the Senior Accountant and the Senior PM leading this transition to gather insights on which form fields and sections were required. Here are my insights:::
🌀
B2B CUSTOMER INFO IS MORE COMPLEX THAN B2C
B2B customers are businesses, communities, etc. Therefore, 100% of B2B customers have more than one property registered.
📄
DOCUMENT ORGANIZATION IS CRUCIAL
Documents (utility bills, contacts, etc) are crucial in determining how much to bill monthly. Accountants need to be able to upload & view documents easily.
DESIGN GOALS

SOLUTIONS
One company, many properties
View all company static information and navigate to each of their properties through a breadcrumb navigation.

All invoices in one place
See all invoices for each company and each property in an accordion table.

REFLECTIONS
This work supported the transition to in-house billing for 450+ B2B customers.
Since much of the design thinking was rooted in curating and presenting form fields into both existing and new sections, I was able to focus on information architecture and establishing clear priorities within the profile.

ASK, DON'T ASSUME
It was important to become almost a mini-expert in this field. It was important to advocate for myself and align with stakeholders whenever I was confused.

GOOD DESIGN IS WHEN YOU CAN'T TAKE ANYTHING AWAY
This project taught me to be more intentional with my designs, ensuring that everything earned its place on the page.
